Senior Associate Roles

Senior associates typically take day to day responsibility for servicing the needs of a portfolio of clients, under the supervision and guidance of a principal or manager, and will normally act as the client's first point of contact, whether as part of an ongoing relationship or on a specific project. The role is essentially a proactive one, developing relationships to ensure client needs are identified and met, identifying and following up new opportunities, and researching and delivering timely and accurate advice effectively addressing clients' specific problems and issues. Senior associates also play an important role as subject matter experts. In addition to specific sector knowledge the role requires a range of technical and personal skills.

Technical skills:

  • Ability to analyse and interpret detailed regulations and apply and articulate such interpretation in relation to real business scenarios;
  • Ability to provide broad insight into the practical impact of regulatory change across the financial services industry;
  • Broad technical understanding of the rationale for different approaches to compliance with regulatory requirements across the financial services industry;
  • Ability to provide proportionate, considered, risk-conscious advice in response to the practical challenges of financial services regulation to a broad range of financial services institutions of varying sizes and complexity;
  • Ability to identify and suggest ways to mitigate regulatory risk; and
  • Broad understanding of thematic priorities of key regulatory stakeholders, both at a domestic and European level.

Other skills and attributes:

  • Highly motivated, with a proven ability to work on own initiative within a challenging work environment;
  • Strong organisation, planning and team playing skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, and influencing skills;
  • Confident working with figures, and familiar with at least basic accounting principles;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Proven track record of delivery of high quality output to time and budget; and
  • Strong IT skills (including major Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
