Bovill briefing | GDPR: Getting data protection right | London | Event date: Thursday 25 January 2018
With only a few months to go until the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force in May 2018 firms still have a lot of work to do to be compliant. This January’s Bovill briefing provided an ideal opportunity to discuss the key issues firms should focus on as the deadline fast approaches. Our GDPR experts provided you with practical solutions and guidance so you can take a proportionate approach to complying.
Whilst it is true that the GDPR builds on the existing data protection act requirements, the enhancements are extensive. Firms affected will have to make a number of key strategic decisions and review their current practices. You will need to consider questions like:
- Are my governance arrangements robust enough to meet the regulation?
- Do I know what categories of personal data I process?
- Do I transfer personal data outside of the EU?
- Am I caught by the extra-territorial reach of the Regulation?
The General Data Protection Regulation has far reaching implications across all sectors and will continue to do so after Brexit.
