Joao “Jay” Chagas advises managers of both U.S. and offshore investment funds on daily operations, surveillance and structuring strategies that comply with regulatory requirements. His experience includes regulatory filings, development of compliance policies and procedures, test surveillance systems, performing compliance reviews and regulatory mock exams, data vendor due diligence and counseling clients on compliance with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and the Investment Company Act of 1940.
Prior to Bovill, Jay was an in-house Compliance for Balyasny Asset Management, US$10bn hedge fund manager, and for BTG Pactual, the largest investment bank in Latin America. Jay first joined BTG Pactual as an AML Compliance Analyst and spent the next 10 years climbing the ranks to Senior Compliance Officer and Deputy CCO, where he supported the CCO across all areas of compliance, particularly SEC, FINRA, NFA and CFTC.
Jay holds a Bachelor in Business Administration with finance major from Pontificia Universidade Catolica, Sao Paulo, Brazil
