NEWSLETTER: Just ahead of COP27, the FCA published the next step in the Roadmap to Sustainable Investing, or CP22/20: Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) and investment labels. While COP27 culminated in a deal to compensate vulnerable countries for climate damage outside their control, the FCA are focusing their attention on stamping out greenwashing.

Elsewhere, global regulators are taking a stance on how climate-related risks are managed. In the UK the focus is on investment disclosures, supposedly so investors can make an informed choice on sustainable investing. Whilst the scope is clear (applying to all regulated firms) the application of the new investment labeling requirements is not. You can find out more about the proposals in our article or by catching up on our recent webinar.

Meanwhile in the US, the SEC stated in their recent annual compliance outreach seminar that they don’t plan to define ESG. Despite this, the regulator still expects investment advisers, registered funds and private funds to clearly define and disclose how ESG is being used in portfolio management practices, and what effects they may cause. Different approaches, different interpretation issues… rest assured, as we all travel towards net zero, we will be providing plenty more coverage of this topic as we all try and untangle what is the best practical approach to implementing the changes.
